This stunning sepia print captures a historic moment in the life of Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn (1850-1942), third son of Queen Victoria. The Duke is depicted in formal attire, wearing a coat with the Order of the Garter insignia and a folded hat on a table before him. The photograph, taken by the renowned Victorian photographer Bassano, captures the Duke's regal presence and the elegance of the era. Born on May 1, 1850, Arthur was the third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. He served in the British Army and saw active duty during the Second Anglo-Afghan War and the Second Boer War. In 1879, he married Princess Louise Marguerite of Prussia, and they had three children. The Duke played an important role in the political and social life of Britain and was a popular figure among the royal family. He was known for his charitable work and his support of various organizations, including the Red Cross and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
