Alfred Joseph Naquet: A Pioneering French Chemist and Nationalist Politician This portrait captures Alfred Joseph Naquet (1834-1916), a remarkable figure in French history who made significant contributions to both the scientific world as a chemist and the political arena as a nationalist politician. Naquet was born in Paris on March 1, 1834, and studied at the prestigious École Normale Supérieure. His scientific achievements include the discovery of the element thallium and the development of the Naquet-Browne process for producing sulfuric acid. However, Naquet's political activism is equally noteworthy.
