EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful postcard image captures a tender moment between Queen Alexandra, the consort of King Edward VII of the United Kingdom (1841-1910), and her grandson, Olaf, the son of her eldest daughter, Princess Maud of Wales (1869-1938). The photograph, taken in the 1920s, showcases the deep bond between the Queen and her grandchild. Born on December 1, 1844, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Alexandra was the daughter of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein and Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel. She married Prince Albert Edward, the eldest son of Queen Victoria, in 1863, and became the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom and the Empress of India upon her husband's accession to the throne in 1901. Their eldest daughter, Maud, was born in 1869, and she married Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 1896. Olaf, the grandson featured in this photograph, was born on August 22, 1903, in Oslo, Norway. The image of Queen Alexandra and Olaf is a poignant reminder of the close relationship between the royal family members and the love that transcended borders. The Queen's elegant attire and the young Olaf's playful expression convey the warmth and affection shared between them. The photograph offers a glimpse into the personal side of royalty, providing a historical record of the close bond between Queen Alexandra and her grandson Olaf. The image is a testament to the enduring legacy of the British monarchy and the personal connections that link the members of the royal family. This postcard is an invaluable historical artifact, offering a glimpse into the lives of the royal family members and the relationships that shaped their lives and the history of the United Kingdom.
