The photograph features two beautifully preserved, red-brick houses, their facades adorned with intricate woodwork and ornate chimneys. The building on the left, with its grand arched windows and elegant balcony, still stands proudly, a testament to the architectural prowess of the era. However, the building on the right, with its more humble appearance, was unfortunately demolished in 1798. Historical records suggest that this unassuming building, now a mere shadow of its former self, was once the site of the Gunpowder Plotters' clandestine meetings. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605, a failed assassination attempt against King James I and his government, is one of the most infamous events in English history. The plotters, led by Robert Catesby, plotted to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening of Parliament.
