Painted by James Atkinson, this artwork showcases Dost Mohammad Khan, ruler of Afghanistan, surrendering to William MacNaghten while taking his morning ride outside Kabul with an escort of soldiers. This powerful image symbolizes the complex dynamics between colonial powers and local rulers during the 19th century.
