This print showcases the Omega Psi Phi Colonel Charles E. Young Service medal and bracelet, a testament to the remarkable achievements of Henrietta Bell Wells. In 1934, Wells became the first female member of Wiley College's debate team, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations. The gold chain bracelet features two exquisite charms that hold great significance. The first charm, crafted in 1934, bears a cross emblem surrounded by an elegant wreath design. Etched text on the cross proudly displays [Col. /Chas. E Young/Service/Award/34]. On one side of this cherished charm are Greek letters at the top while the other side boasts Henrietta Bell Wells' initials [HB] in elaborate type within a wreath-like motif. The second charm is circular and made from lustrous gold by Bojar Manufacturing Company. It features raised relief numbers [78] with etched text: [12K G F / BOJAR], symbolizing its quality craftsmanship. On its reverse side lies another intricate script displaying [DSJ]. Both sides are adorned with a mesmerizing rope-like spiral around their edges. The interlocking loops forming the chain exude elegance and sophistication, culminating in a fold-over clasp for secure fastening. Notably, there is also a smaller chain connected to both ends of the clasp composed of smaller interlocking loops. This extraordinary piece represents not only Wells' exceptional accomplishments but also serves as a reminder of her trailblazing spirit within historically black institutions like Wiley College in Texas during an era when opportunities were limited for women like her.
