EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print takes us back to a significant moment in history - the American Civil War. Captured on the 13th of December, 1862, this colour lithograph showcases General Robert Edward Lee during his time as commander of the Confederate Army. Mounted on horseback and equipped with binoculars, General Lee stands atop a ridge overlooking the battlefield at Fredericksburg. The artist behind this remarkable illustration is Henry Alexander Ogden (1856-1936), whose work has become part of the esteemed Historica Graphica Collection. Through vibrant colours and meticulous attention to detail, Ogden brings to life this pivotal scene from one of America's most tumultuous periods. Intriguingly composed, this image captures not only General Lee but also other officers who surround him. The cavalry can be seen in motion below while Una, General Lee's trusted steed, stands steadfast by his side.
