The illustration is taken from "Histoire et Costumes des Ordres Monastiques" by Pierre Helyot, an esteemed French author and historian. Created by an anonymous artist from the 18th century, this engraving now resides in a private collection. The image depicts a Frey Caballero donning the original habit of the Order, which closely resembles that of a Cistercian monk. However, modifications have been made to accommodate horseback riding, with shortened skirts for ease of movement. Known as Chevalier d'Alcantara, these knights were members of a military order founded in Leon during the 12th century with the purpose of combating Muslim forces. The intricate details captured in this artwork highlight both chivalry and honor associated with medieval knighthood. The knight's armor exudes strength and protection while his posture emanates confidence and bravery.
