Battery of howitzers passing through saluting base (colour photo)

8668608 Battery of howitzers passing through saluting base (colour photo) by English Photographer, (20th century); Private Collection; (add.info.: Battery of howitzers passing through saluting base. On 13 July 1935, His late Majesty King George V reviewed the troops of the Aldershot Command as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of that year. The occasion was notable for the large proportion of mechanized units present, and our picture illustrates a battery of tractor-drawn howitzers of the Royal Regiment of Artillery passing through the saluting base, at which His Majesty stood and took the salute. The march past is now a deep-rooted military custom, and although a large proportion of cavalry units have become mechanized, it still forms an integral part of a military review.
