They have a soft body protected by their shell and they move using muscular foot-like structures located on the bottom of their bodies. They feed on algae and other small organisms by scraping them off rocks with their radula, which is a tongue-like organ covered with tiny teeth. It also possess gills for respiration and two pairs of antennae for sensing their environment. They reproduce sexually through external fertilization and lay eggs that hatch into larvae which eventually grow into adults and can an important part of many marine ecosystems as they provide food for predators such as fish, crabs, sea stars, and octopuses.
