Road Cycling - 1974 Tour de France - Stage Two: Plymouth-Plymouth
Belgium's Eddy Merckx, in the white combination jersey, underneath his Molteni team top, on the Plympton bypass.
Merckx would go on to win the combination classification, as well as the overall general classification. It was his fifth, and final, Tour victory, equalling the record of Jacques Anquetil.
It was the first time the Tour had been staged on British soil, to celebrate the UK's entry to the Common Market

Road Cycling - 1977 Glenryck Cup Professional Criterium - Eastway Cycle Circuit
France's 41 year-old Raymond Poulidor at Lee Valley Park, East London (later site of the Olympic VeloPark).
He was know as the eternal second, because he finished the Tour de France in second place three times, and in third place five times, including his final Tour at the age of 40 the year before.
The event was organised by boxing promoter Mike Barrett and was was informally known as the Merckx Meeting as it attracted arguably the greatest cyclist of all time - Eddy Merckx - as well as other top riders from the continent.
