promotional postcard for Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle and William Gillette. First produced in England, Shakespeare Theatre, Liverpool 2nd September and Lyceum Theatre, 9th September 1901. The plot did not derive from any of the original Conan Doyle stories but was invented by Gillette. Among other things he brought in a heroine and the phrase Elementary, my dear Watson. Date: circa 1903
