Memorial to British and Allied Forces, Jonkerbos
This simple column Memorial is in the Jonkerbos Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in a wooded area known as Jonkers Bosch (Childrens Wood). The CWGC Cemetery was created by the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station and contains 1, 639 burials with casualties from both Operation Market Garden and Operation Veritable. The stone column commemorates the men who were removed to this cemetery from one near the Marienbosch Convent which was a typical hospital burial ground with the graves made by the medical staff as the men died of their wounds. The stone carries a familiar quotation from Rupert Brookes The Soldier and the words To those men of the British and Allied Forces who gave their lives and are buried here. Date: 2001

EDITORS COMMENTS
"This poignant print captures the Memorial to British and Allied Forces in the Jonkerbos Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, located in a serene wooded area known as Jonkers Bosch (Children's Wood) in the Netherlands. The cemetery, created by the 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, holds the graves of 1,639 soldiers, with casualties from both Operation Market Garden and Operation Veritable. The simple stone column at the memorial commemorates the men who were moved from a nearby hospital burial ground, the Marienbosch Convent, where the graves were made by medical staff as the soldiers succumbed to their wounds. The inscription on the stone reads, "To those men of the British and Allied Forces who gave their lives and are buried here." The quote etched on the column is taken from Rupert Brooke's poem, "The Soldier," adding a profound sense of loss and sacrifice. This image serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the brave men and women who fought in World War II and the enduring peace that their sacrifices have brought."
