This photograph, taken in 1893, captures the Argentine cruiser Nueve de Julio (Nine of July) during the Colombian Naval Review. The image, which measures 8 x 10 inches, was produced using a dry plate negative process. The Nueve de Julio, built by the Armstrong Whitworth Company in England, was a powerful and advanced warship of the late 19th century. With a displacement of over 3,000 tons and armed with a battery of twelve 6-inch guns, she was a formidable presence on the water. The photograph shows the Nueve de Julio in profile, her sleek lines and angular features accentuated by the calm waters of the Colombian coast. The cruiser's funnel and smokestacks are visible at the rear, belching out plumes of smoke. In the background, other naval vessels can be seen, adding to the sense of grandeur and scale. The photograph is a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering a window into the world of naval warfare during the late 19th century. It is believed to have been taken by Edwin H. Husher, although the exact source of the image is unknown. The photograph is now held in the collections of the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., a testament to its historical significance.
