First Flight of a Liquid Propellant Rocket
Dr. Robert H. Goddard and a liquid oxygen-gasoline rocket in the frame from which it was fired on March 16, 1926, at Auburn, Massachusetts. From 1930 to 1941, Dr. Goddard made substantial progress in the development of progressively larger rockets, which attained altitudes of 2400 meters, and refined his equipment for guidance and control, his techniques of welding, and his insulation, pumps and other associated equipment. In many respects, Dr. Goddard laid the essential foundations of practical rocket technology. He is considered one of the fathers of rocketry along with Konstantin Tsiolovsky (1857-1935) and Hermann Oberth (1894-1989)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a monumental moment in the history of space exploration - the first flight of a liquid propellant rocket. In this frame, we witness Dr. Robert H. Goddard standing proudly beside his groundbreaking creation, a liquid oxygen-gasoline rocket, moments before its historic launch on March 16,1926, in Auburn, Massachusetts. Dr. Goddard's tireless dedication and relentless pursuit of scientific advancement propelled him to make significant strides in rocket development from 1930 to 1941. His visionary work led to the construction of progressively larger rockets that soared to altitudes reaching an impressive 2400 meters. Beyond mere propulsion systems, Dr. Goddard revolutionized various aspects crucial for practical rocket technology as we know it today. He refined techniques such as welding and insulation while enhancing equipment for guidance and control along with pumps and other associated components. Acknowledged as one of the fathers of rocketry alongside Konstantin Tsiolovsky and Hermann Oberth, Dr. Goddard laid essential foundations that continue to shape our understanding and exploration beyond Earth's boundaries. As we gaze upon this remarkable image capturing the birth of modern rocketry, let us celebrate not only Dr. Robert H.
