With those droopy whiskers, the lady looks like somthing straight out of Wonderland. So it isn t surprising that her name is Alice. In fact, she has quite a lot in common with another Lewis Carroll character - the Walrus in Alice Through the Looking Glass. You will remember that Mr. Carrolls Walrus and the carpenter scoffed all the oysters on the beach. Well, Alice the Walrus who was caught off the shores of North Siberia, is rather fond of her food as well. She, too, gobbles up shellfish. The keepers, feed her a diet of vitamins, milk and herrings to keep her waistline trim. But that doasn t stop Alice weighing ten stone five pounds at the tender age of nine months. March 1967 P009303
