Victoria, born in 1862 as the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden, became the Queen Consort of Sweden upon her marriage to Gustav in 1905. Their union marked the beginning of a new era in Swedish history, as Gustav ascended to the throne in 1907 following the death of his elder brother, Oscar II.
