EDITORS COMMENTS
In this elegant and captivating portrait, Princess Elisabeth of Greece and Denmark, the second daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece, is depicted in the prime of her youth. Born in 1904, Elisabeth was a member of the illustrious Greek royal family and a sister to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. The image, taken in 1925, captures the princess in a refined and sophisticated manner, wearing a chic dress with intricate beadwork and a delicate neckline. Her expressive eyes, adorned with subtle makeup, gaze directly at the viewer, exuding an air of confidence and poise. The princess's dark, wavy hair is styled in an elegant updo, framing her delicate features and accentuating her regal bearing. Despite her privileged upbringing, Elisabeth's life was marked by tragedy and heartache. In 1930, she married Count Luitpold of Toerring-Jettenbach, a German nobleman, in a controversial union that was not recognized by the Greek royal family. The couple had three children before divorcing in 1941. Elisabeth later remarried, to Count Luitpold's cousin, Count Franz von und zu Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg, in 1946. Despite the challenges she faced, Princess Elisabeth remained a beloved figure in Greek and European royal circles, known for her grace, beauty, and resilience. This stunning portrait, taken in her early twenties, offers a glimpse into the life of a remarkable woman who defied convention and forged her own path.
