One of nine Lancaster bombers converted from B.IIIs, this particular aircraft was fitted with Rolls-Royce Merlin 85/87 engines, which boasted two-stage superchargers, significantly enhancing the high altitude performance of the aircraft. The Lancaster B.VI was primarily used by the Pathfinder squadrons for a brief period in 1944, enabling them to fly at higher altitudes and accurately mark targets for the following bomber formations. However, as the war progressed and more advanced aircraft became available, the Lancaster B.VI was relegated to secondary duties.
