This photograph captures the intense determination and athletic grace of Wilson Charles (1910-1994) during the Decathlon event at the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Charles, representing the United States, is shown here in the final stage of the grueling ten-event competition, the 1500-meter race.
