This exquisitely detailed hand-colored copperplate engraving depicts the Common Box Turtle, Terrapene carolina, also known as the Eastern Box Turtle or the Common Box Tortoise, and the European Closed Box Tortoise, Testudo clausa when referring to its close relative.
