This exquisitely hand-colored print depicts the Black-headed Bulbul, Pycnonotus atriceps, also known as the Black-headed Shrike or Lanius melanocephalus. The image is a meticulously crafted copperplate engraving, drawn and engraved by the renowned English ornithologist, John Latham, for his seminal work "A General History of Birds," published in Winchester in 1822. The Black-headed Bulbul is a small, strikingly beautiful bird, native to the tropical regions of Asia. Its distinctive black head, white underparts, and olive-green back make it a striking subject for Latham's artful rendering.
