Kensington & Chelsea District School, plumbers shop
In 1876, the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea established a District School for pauper children at Banstead, Surrey (later known as Beechholme). As well as cottage homes, each housing 40 children, the site had its own schools, infirmary, chapel, swimming pool etc. One of the trades taught to the boys was plumbing, as seen here amongst the lead piping of the plumbers workshop. Certificates of Merit adorn the ceiling beams
