EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a pivotal moment in the extraordinary life of Kamala, the Indian girl who lived with wolves for nearly a decade. Taken in Midnapore, India, in December 1921, the image shows Kamala, now 27 years old, tentatively accepting food and drink from the hand of Mrs. Singh. The story of Kamala began in 1912 when, as a young girl, she was abducted by a pack of wolves in the forests of India. For the next eight years, she lived with them, learning their ways and adapting to their wild existence. She hunted, howled, and even slept among them, earning their trust and acceptance. But by 1920, Kamala began to yearn for her human past. She started to miss the simple pleasures of human life, such as food, clothing, and companionship. And so, she began to venture out of the forest, seeking out human contact. In this photograph, Kamala stands before Mrs. Singh, her eyes filled with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. The kindly woman offers her a drink and some food, a small gesture that represents a significant step towards Kamala's re-entry into human society. The wolves, who had once been her only companions, now watch from a distance, their expressions unreadable. This photograph is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity for adaptation. It also serves as a reminder of the strange and wondrous tales that lie hidden in the annals of history. Kamala's story is one of those oddities that defies explanation, a paranormal tale of a girl who lived with wolves and, against all odds, found her way back to humanity.
