This evocative photograph captures the stern yet resolute visage of General Sir Henry Crichton Sclater, a prominent British Army leader during World War I. Born on March 28, 1855, in County Tyrone, Ireland, Sclater joined the British Army in 1873 and rose through the ranks to become a respected and accomplished military commander. As the shadow of war loomed over Europe, Sclater's strategic acumen and leadership skills were put to the test. He served with distinction in various theaters of the war, including France, Mesopotamia, and Palestine. In 1916, he was appointed to command the 3rd Division, which played a crucial role in the Battle of the Somme.
