Edison, a prolific inventor and pioneer in electrical technology, was also deeply intrigued by the prospect of human flight. His Flying Ship design, which he began working on in 1886, was a radical departure from the heavier-than-air aircraft that would come to dominate the skies in the 20th century. The Flying Ship was envisioned as a large, winged vessel that could carry passengers and cargo through the air, using a series of fans to generate lift. The design featured multiple wings arranged in a V-shape, with the pilot and passengers seated in a gondola suspended beneath the wings. Edison believed that the Flying Ship could reach altitudes of up to 10,000 feet and travel at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. Despite the ambitious nature of his design, Edison was confident that he could make it a reality. He even went so far as to build a small-scale model of the Flying Ship and conduct wind tunnel tests to refine the design. However, the project was ultimately abandoned due to the lack of available materials and technology to build a full-scale prototype.
