In 1877, Gordon was appointed as the Governor-General of the Sudan, where he aimed to bring order and stability to the region. Despite facing numerous challenges and adversities, including the Mahdist War, Gordon remained committed to his mission. He is best known for his heroic defense of Khartoum, the Sudanese capital, during the Siege of Khartoum in 1884-1885.
