Portishead B Power Station opened in the mid 1950 s. Portisheads original power station, which was completed in 1929, became known as Power Station A. Portishead B was built on part of the Great Western Railways original Portishead Railway Station, which was demolished and rebuilt closer to the centre. Portishead B had eight coal-fired and four oil-fired steam boilers. The power station closed in 1982, and the chimneys were demolished in 1992

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur of Portishead B Power Station, located in Portishead and North Weston, North Somerset. Taken from the east side of the dock, this image showcases the impressive structure against a picturesque waterscape backdrop. Portishead B Power Station was a significant landmark that opened its doors in the mid-1950s. It served as an expansion to Portisheads' original power station, known as Power Station A, which was completed in 1929. The construction of Portishead B took place on part of the Great Western Railways' original Portishead Railway Station site. To accommodate this development, the railway station was demolished and rebuilt closer to the town center. Equipped with eight coal-fired and four oil-fired steam boilers, Portishead B Power Station played a crucial role in generating electricity for decades. However, it ceased operations in 1982 and sadly met its demise when its chimneys were demolished in 1992. This photograph not only highlights the industrial prowess of this power station but also offers a glimpse into life during the 1970s. With its towering presence dominating both land and water, it serves as a reminder of our reliance on such structures for powering our communities. Preserved by Historic England Archive and expertly captured by A© Joh, this print is an invaluable piece of history that immortalizes an era gone by.
