EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the charm of "Old Houses in Wych Street" taken in 1881. The creator of this remarkable piece remains unknown, adding an air of mystery to its allure. Wych Street, located in London, was a bustling avenue that stretched from the iconic St Clement Danes church on the Strand to Drury Lane's southern end. Sadly, this picturesque street met its demise around 1901 as part of a redevelopment project that gave birth to Kingsway and Aldwych. Preserved within this image is a glimpse into a bygone era, captured with great detail and precision. The architectural beauty of these historic buildings stands tall against the backdrop of nineteenth-century London. Each structure tells its own story, reflecting the rich history and character of Britain's capital city. As we explore this monochrome scene, we are transported back in time to witness life as it once was. Edward Walford's publication "Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, and Its Places" immortalizes these old houses for generations to come. This print serves as a testament to his dedication in preserving England's heritage through his work. As we gaze upon this evocative photograph print today, we can't help but appreciate the craftsmanship that went into capturing such an extraordinary moment frozen in time forevermore.
