The palace grounds are comprised of a public palace area, a royal family residence buildings, and the rear garden. Known as a place only for the royal family, also known as The Secret gardena. Changdeokgung Palace is very graceful and glamorous but they are well contained from being too fancy. Architects of Joseon Dynasty had emphasized more on shapes of lines and proportions of buildings rather than colors, sizes and ornaments. Especially buildings of Changdeokgung were beautifully located according to the natural topography of the area. Architects of Joseon Dynasty always had tried to minimize damages of natural environments. Changdeokgung Palace remains as the highlight of Joseon Dynastyas superb architecture. Changdeokgung Palace was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage site by the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Committee in 1997
