Face of Eagle Hunter, Mongolia

The eagle in Ulgii (Bayan-Olgii)west Mongolia is of the Altai sub-species, endemic from the Altai moutains to the far eastern Siberia. The eagles mate for life, and nest in rocky crags. They are known for living in the moutains, but we saw hundreds of them on a trip through the dry grasslands of nearby Zavkhan province. These eagle hunters, who preserve an old tradition thatas passed from generation to generation, tame eagles and use them for hunting smaller animals, such as foxes and marmots. The eagle hunteras families live on this side of Mongolia after having migrated between Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia until the fall of communism and closing of all borders. The traditionas preservation was what drew me to them. They preserve it without any touristic nature, unlike in Kazakhstan. These Kazakh eagle hunters, who live in Mongolia today, are the last ones on earth who still deserve the title Eagle Huntera. It is not merely a title to them, but a way of life

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing face of an Eagle Hunter in Mongolia. The eagle featured in the image belongs to the Altai sub-species, which is endemic to the Altai mountains and stretches all the way to far eastern Siberia. Nesting in rocky crags and known for their mountainous habitat, it was a remarkable sight to witness hundreds of these majestic creatures during a journey through the dry grasslands of Zavkhan province. The Eagle Hunters are custodians of an ancient tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. They have mastered the art of taming eagles and utilize them for hunting smaller animals like foxes and marmots. What sets these Mongolian eagle hunters apart is their commitment to preserving this age-old practice without any commercial exploitation, unlike their counterparts in Kazakhstan. Forced by political circumstances, these families have settled on this side of Mongolia after years of migrating between Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia until communism fell and borders closed. Their dedication towards upholding this tradition with utmost authenticity drew me towards them. These Kazakh eagle hunters residing in Mongolia today hold a unique distinction as being the last remaining individuals on Earth who truly deserve the title "Eagle Hunter". To them, it is not just a mere title but rather a way of life deeply intertwined with nature's harmony. This evocative photograph by Aumphotography beautifully encapsulates their story without any mention or association with commercial use or companies – making it an exquisite addition for art enthusiasts seeking genuine cultural narratives at Fine Art Storehouse.
