General John Adams Dix echoes his famous dispatch from 1861: "If any man attempts to haul down the American flag. . . shoot him on the spot". This quote emphasizes Dix's unwavering commitment to preserving unity within a divided nation. Lastly, George Brinton McClellan laments his affiliation with Democrats despite being a Union Army General during the Civil War.
