This print showcases an autograph letter written by the renowned historical figure, Marie Antoinette. Dated 19 April 1770, this pen and ink masterpiece on vellum measures 16.5x11.5 cm and is part of a private collection. The letter was addressed to either Therese or Barbe Durieux, two of Marie Antoinette's ladies in waiting. It was penned just two days before her departure for France and coincided with her marriage by proxy in Vienna on the same day. In this touching note, the young Archduchess expressed her gratitude and loyalty to one of her trusted attendants: "Soyez persuadee chere Durieu que je penserai toujours a vous et que ne n'oublierai jamais les peines que vous avez eu avec moi c'est dont vous assure / votre tres fidele / Antoine Archiduchesse" (Translation: "Be assured dear Durieu that I will always think of you and never forget the troubles you have had with me; your very faithful Antoine Archduchess"). The reverse side of this precious artifact features a gouache painting depicting St. John the Baptist. This unique combination adds depth to its historical significance.
