EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a shoulder title belonging to the Central Bengal Light Horse, a significant Indian Army auxiliary that operated from 1884 to 1901. The white metal badge features the unit's monogram, CBLH, and is now housed in the National Army Museum in London. The Central Bengal Light Horse played an essential role as part of the army organization in Calcutta, India during its active years. This auxiliary unit was established to support and assist the Indian Army with their operations. In 1901, it merged with another esteemed cavalry regiment known as the Calcutta Light Horse. Although this particular shoulder title dates back over a century ago, it remains an enduring symbol of bravery and service rendered by Indian soldiers. It serves as a reminder of their dedication and sacrifice towards maintaining peace and security within their nation. Sadly, like many other military units at that time, the Central Bengal Light Horse was disbanded in 1947 when India gained independence from British rule. However, its legacy lives on through artifacts such as this precious metal badge. This remarkable print belongs to Field Marshal Sir John Chapple's Indian Army Collection at the National Army Museum. Its inclusion here allows us to appreciate not only its historical significance but also recognize and honor those who served under its banner.
