EDITORS COMMENTS
Great moments in Arsenal Football Club's history were on full display at Arsenal Stadium in Highbury, London on May 17, 2004, as the Arsenal XI took on the England XI in a friendly match to honor the career of Martin Keown. Keown, a beloved and influential figure in Arsenal's history, spent 12 years with the Gunners, making over 350 appearances and helping the team win numerous trophies. The sun shone brightly on this special day, casting long shadows across the hallowed turf as the two teams took to the field. The Arsenal XI donned their iconic red and white stripes, while the England XI wore their national team colors. The atmosphere was electric as fans, both young and old, gathered to pay tribute to Keown and witness a reunion of Arsenal legends. The first half of the match saw the Arsenal XI dominating possession, with their intricate passing and quick movement causing the England XI defense all sorts of problems. Former Arsenal stars Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, and Dennis Bergkamp, all of whom had formed a formidable attacking trio during their time at the club, linked up brilliantly to create several chances. The second half brought on a few surprises, as Keown himself took to the field for a cameo appearance, much to the delight of the crowd. The England XI, bolstered by the inclusion of David Beckham and Michael Owen, put on a strong showing and managed to pull level with a goal from the latter. However, it was the Arsenal XI who had the last laugh, as Thierry Henry, another Arsenal legend, scored the winning goal in the dying minutes of the game, sending the fans into raptures. The final whistle blew, and the players, both past and present, came together for a heartfelt celebration, basking in the joy of a day that celebrated the rich history and enduring spirit of Arsenal Football Club.
