Born in 1862, Keppel began his naval career at the age of 13, joining the Royal Navy as a boy seaman. Over the course of his illustrious career, he rose through the ranks to become a Rear-Admiral, earning numerous accolades and distinctions along the way. During the early years of the 20th century, Keppel served in the China War and the Boxer Rebellion, where he distinguished himself in battle and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) for his bravery and leadership. In the First World War, he commanded the battleship HMS Queen Elizabeth and played a key role in the Battle of Jutland, one of the largest naval battles in history. For his service during the war, he was knighted by King George V in 1916. Throughout his career, Sir Colin Richard Keppel was known for his unwavering dedication to the Royal Navy and his commitment to upholding the values of honor, courage, and discipline.
