In this photograph, we are granted a glimpse into the grandeur of a bygone era, as we behold the magnificent array of presents that filled the main salon of St. James Palace in 1934. The occasion that brought about this impressive display was the wedding of Prince George, Duke of Kent, to Princess Marina of Greece, which took place at Westminster Abbey on November 29, 1934. The room, one of the three areas open to the public, was adorned with nearly a thousand thoughtfully selected gifts. These presents were bestowed upon the newlyweds by an array of esteemed donors, including European and Asiatic Kings, Queens, and Princes, disabled soldiers, servants from the Balmoral estate, corporations, guilds, and members of the Services. The value of these gifts was substantial, reflecting the respect and admiration held for the royal couple. To ensure their safety, specially picked detectives guarded the presents day and night. The sight of this impressive collection serves as a testament to the unity and generosity of the people, as they came together to celebrate the union of the Duke and Princess Marina.
