EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a United States Air Force Convair VT-29B with the serial number 239 and military registration O-51-3811. Originally entering service as a standard T-29B in the US Air Force, this aircraft underwent several conversions throughout its career. In its first modification, it was converted to an NT-29B, featuring additional dorsal and ventral radomes and a Solar T41 auxiliary power unit in an underwing pod to power training equipment. Later, it was changed back to a VT-29B. After leaving military service, the VT-29B was disposed of to the Military Assistance and Sales Disposition Center (MASDC) and given the inventory number TB293 on June 27, 1975. It was then registered to Lansing Community College in Michigan on April 7, 1977. The aircraft was later registered to Great Circle Aviation of Miami, Florida, on February 26, 1979, and was given the registration number VY-LLA. However, its tenure with Great Circle Aviation was short-lived, as the aircraft was seized by US Customs at Miami International Airport in March 1979 due to its involvement in a drugs run, with the registration being illegal. The VT-29B was subsequently returned to Florida Aircraft Leasing Corp on March 27, 1981. Unfortunately, the aircraft was scrapped at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in July 1981, and its registration was cancelled on October 19, 2004.
