Seen at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska on 19 August 1969 Thunderbird 8 : 1969 Thunderbird 7 : 1970 it served as number 7 as the Narrators aircraft. Thunderbird 3 : 1971 Thunderbird 5 : 1972 Thunderbird 6 : 1973 December 1973, went to 6512th TFS at Edwards AFB, as a chase plane and redesignated NF-4E. Now on display at Castle Air Museum, California since Apr 1995, painted as Thunderbird 6. Date: 1969

mcdonnell F-4E-31-MC Phantom II 66-289A, affectionately known as Thunderbird 8, is depicted in this photograph taken at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska on August 19, 1969. At the time, Thunderbird 8 served as the narrator's aircraft for the United States Air Force Thunderbirds aerobatic team. Prior to this assignment, it had a distinguished career with the Thunderbirds, serving as Thunderbird 7 in 1970, Thunderbird 3 in 1971, Thunderbird 5 in 1972, and Thunderbird 6 in 1973. In December 1973, the Phantom II was transferred to the 6512th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Edwards Air Force Base in California, where it was redesignated as an NF-4E and used as a chase plane. After its military service, Thunderbird 8 found a new home at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California, where it has been on display since April 1995. The Phantom II is painted as Thunderbird 6 in this image, showcasing its vibrant colors and distinctive markings. This historic aircraft is a testament to the rich history of aviation and the United States Air Force. The Phantom II was a versatile and powerful aeroplane, used for various roles including interception, air-to-air combat, and aerial reconnaissance. Its transport to the museum preserves its legacy for future generations to appreciate and learn from.
