This evocative image captures the pious and humble countenance of a Nun of Santa Chiara, also known as the Poor Clares or Clarisses, in the year 1833. The Sister, dressed in the traditional habit of her order, gazes intently towards the heavens with a look of deep devotion and contemplation. The Poor Clares, founded by Saint Clare of Assisi in the 13th century, were a branch of the Franciscan Order, dedicated to a life of poverty, prayer, and penance.
