EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time with this photograph of the King William IV Public House in Chigwell, Essex, dating back to the 1920s. The image, taken in 1927, shows the main facade of the pub with its distinctive red-brick exterior and ornate wooden sign. The pub, now a popular pub-restaurant, has retained much of its original character, transporting us back to an era of classic British hospitality. The King William IV, located at IG7 6PW, was a well-established establishment during the 1920s, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the back of the print. The record indicates that the pub was in operation as early as 1925 and continued to serve the local community until at least 1961. The Savill Brothers are listed as the proprietors during this time. The King William IV is a quintessential example of a traditional British pub, with its inviting atmosphere and rich history. The building, which has stood the test of time, continues to be a beloved local institution, offering a warm welcome to visitors and regulars alike. This photograph is a fascinating glimpse into the past, providing us with a valuable record of a bygone era and a reminder of the enduring charm of the British pub.
