Madge Evans in Piccadilly Jim (1936) wearing Dolly Tree Gown

Madge Evans in Piccadilly Jim (1936) wore this evening gown designed by Dolly Tree made of white piqu. There was a clip at the back for variety. The flared skirt and the snug bodice were impertinently smart. Over this was worn a jacket of black cire satin with quadruple squared points on the sleeve tops. A white carnation was on her lapel (seen on page 284 bottom right) It was thought that this gown could be excellently done in slipper satin. The deep pinches on the shoulder tops of the cire jacket afford a striking way of stressing shoulder width. Cire was well adapted to the sculptured folds seen in some of the new ?dragged over the figure? models which Paris were sponsoring at the time. Date: 1936

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from 1936, actress Madge Evans gracefully poses in the Dolly Tree Gown she wore in the film "Piccadilly Jim," produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) Studios. The elegant evening gown, designed by the renowned costume designer Dolly Tree, was made of white piqu, a smooth and firm fabric that clung to Evans' figure in all the right places. The gown featured a flared skirt and a snug bodice, creating an impertinently smart and sophisticated silhouette. Over the piqu gown, Evans wore a jacket of black cire satin, a rich and luxurious fabric that added an air of glamour and sophistication to the ensemble. The jacket boasted quadruple squared points on the sleeve tops, drawing attention to the shoulders and accentuating their width in a striking way. Cire was a popular fabric in the fashion world at the time, particularly for its ability to create sculpted folds and the dramatic, "dragged over the figure" styles that Paris was sponsoring. Evans accessorized the outfit with a white carnation on her lapel, adding a pop of color and a touch of elegance to the monochromatic look. The photograph, taken during the golden age of Hollywood, captures the essence of the 1930s and the glamour and sophistication of the era. Evans, with her youthful beauty and impeccable style, embodies the jazz age and the magic of the movies that captivated audiences during this time.
