EDITORS COMMENTS
This profile image depicts Milo of Crotona, an ancient Greek athlete renowned for his extraordinary strength and unparalleled wrestling prowess. Born in Crotona, a city in southern Italy around 550 BC, Milo's legend began when he was a shepherd boy who, in an act of playful mischief, uprooted a tree and carried it on his shoulders as a joke. The tree was so large that when Milo placed it down, a spring of water gushed forth from the ground, revealing the presence of a nymph. In gratitude, the nymph granted Milo the gift of unmatched strength. Milo's athletic career began in earnest when he entered the Olympic Games in 532 BC, winning the wrestling competition with ease. He went on to win the Pythian Games in Delphi several times, solidifying his status as the greatest wrestler of his time. The circular coin depicted in the background is a testament to Milo's enduring legacy. The obverse side features a bust of Milo, while the reverse bears the image of the god Hercules, symbolizing Milo's incredible strength and connection to the divine. Milo's story transcends time, inspiring generations of athletes and admirers with his unwavering determination, raw power, and unyielding spirit. This profile image offers a glimpse into the past, allowing us to connect with the man behind the myth and appreciate the depth of Greek history and culture.
