Malcolm Campbell and Bluebird
Bluebird - the car in which Captain Malcolm Campbell (1885-1948) set a new world land speed record on 20th February 1928 at Daytona Beach, Florida. He reached a speed of 206.95 mph in a heavy gale. At 210mph the car turned broadside, but Campbell managed to recover, hitting a top speed of 214mph. He was knighted by King George V in 1931. Date: 1928
