Born on February 23, 1737, in Charlestown, Massachusetts, Heath was a key figure in the American Revolution. Heath began his military career as a captain in the Massachusetts Militia during the French and Indian War and rose through the ranks to become a major general in the Continental Army. Heath is best known for his leadership during the Battle of Saratoga, considered a turning point in the war, where he commanded the left wing of the American forces. After the war, Heath served as the governor of Massachusetts from 1794 to 1798. This print captures the stern and determined expression of a man who led his troops with courage and conviction.
