Young is best known for his leadership role in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormons, serving as its President from 1847 until 1877. In addition to his religious duties, Young was also the founder of Salt Lake City and the first governor of the Utah Territory in the United States.
