Pan playing flute with Dionysus in nature drawing art nouveau 1897

Pan is the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, nature of mountain wilds, rustic music and impromptus, and companion of the nymphs. Dionysus is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, orchards and fruit, vegetation, insanity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, festivity and theatre in ancient Greek religion and myth.
Art Nouveau is an international style of art, architecture, and applied art, especially the decorative arts, known in different languages by different names: Jugendstil in German, Stile Liberty in Italian, Modernisme catala in Catalan, etc. In English it is also known as the Modern Style. The style was most popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Epoque period that ended with the start of World War I in 1914.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning art print captures the enchanting harmony between Pan and Dionysus, two iconic figures from ancient Greek mythology. In this Art Nouveau masterpiece created in 1897 by E. M. Lilien, we witness Pan, the god of wild nature and rustic music, playing his flute alongside Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility. The intricate details and flowing lines characteristic of the Art Nouveau style beautifully accentuate their divine presence amidst a serene natural setting. Art Nouveau emerged as an international artistic movement during the late 19th to early 20th century, known for its emphasis on organic forms inspired by nature. This particular piece exemplifies that aesthetic with its graceful depiction of Pan's goat-like features blending seamlessly with the surrounding foliage. The original edition of this artwork is a treasured gem from private archives, showcasing Jugendstil influences prevalent in Germany at that time. Its timeless appeal continues to captivate viewers today. As we admire this print, let us be transported back to a Belle Epoque era where beauty and creativity flourished before being overshadowed by World War I's onset in 1914. Let us celebrate the rich cultural heritage embodied within this work while appreciating Grafissimo's dedication to preserving such exquisite pieces for our enjoyment.
