EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable beaker from the Saljuq Period in Kashan, Iran. What sets this beaker apart is its unique depiction of a complete narrative cycle from the Shahnama, also known as the Persian Book of Kings. This makes it an exceptional piece within Islamic art history. The intricate design features small yet highly detailed images organized in horizontal bands that recount the adventures of Bizhan and Manizha. The story begins with Firdawsi's beloved tale-telling before delving into various episodes involving these legendary characters.
