This print captures the timeless beauty of Hinton Ampner, a historic English stately home. Taken from Giles Worsley's renowned book "England's Lost Houses" this image showcases the grandeur and elegance of the Georgian architecture that defines Hinton Ampner. Originally built in the Tudor era, the original house was unfortunately demolished in 1793. However, Lord Stawell commissioned a new house to be constructed on the site, which was later remodeled and enlarged in 1867 with Gothic Revival influences. In 1953, Ralph Dutton made significant changes to restore its Georgian core after demolishing most of the additions. Tragically, Hinton Ampner suffered severe damage due to a devastating fire in 1960. Despite this setback, its enduring charm still shines through as depicted in this photograph. The image showcases not only the magnificent exterior facade but also hints at the enchanting gardens surrounding Hinton Ampner.
