EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, Arsenal's Johan Djourou proudly lifts the Carling League Cup aloft, celebrating the Gunners' hard-fought 3-0 victory over Reading at the hallowed grounds of Highbury in London on November 29,2005. The fourth round of the Carling League Cup saw Arsenal in top form, with Djourou playing a pivotal role in their defense. The Swiss international, then just 21 years old, had only joined Arsenal the previous summer from Swiss side FC Basel. His impressive performances throughout the season, however, had earned him a regular place in the starting line-up. In this match, Djourou's composure and determination were on full display as he helped Arsenal keep a clean sheet against a tenacious Reading side. The first half saw Arsenal dominating possession, with Thierry Henry, Robert Pires, and Dennis Bergkamp combining brilliantly to create numerous chances. The deadlock was finally broken in the 52nd minute when Henry scored from the penalty spot after a foul on Bergkamp. Arsenal continued to press, with Henry adding a second goal in the 67th minute, and a third coming from a stunning volley by Pires in the 88th minute. As the final whistle blew, Arsenal fans erupted in jubilation, knowing that their team had secured a place in the next round of the Carling League Cup. Djourou, beaming with pride and joy, held the trophy aloft, basking in the glory of a well-deserved victory. This photograph captures the essence of that moment, a testament to Arsenal's team spirit, skill, and determination.
